Guyana Music Camp,

Georgetown, Demerara-Mahaica, Guyana Georgetown, Demerara-Mahaica, Guyana

  • About the event

McKay’s Music provides a variety of nonprofit services for students throughout South Florida USA; such as music lessons, workshops, summer camps and college assistance. These programs are provided to inner-city youths who are less fortunate. We are currently working to expand our summer camp program to Georgetown Guyana; for youth’s ages 12 to 18 years old. It will help provide a positive environment for youths to learn how to express themselves in a positive manner; while serving as an enrichment to stimulate their minds.

This program will be offered Monday through Friday from June 1st, 2017 to August 31st, 2017 9:00AM to 3:30 PM. During this program, we will be offering drums, piano, trumpet, trombone, tuba, music composition and comprehension classes and performance workshops. Students will also have the opportunity to explore careers within the music field. This program will be concluded with our summer gala, where students will share their talents and knowledge. In addition, we will provide assistance for students seeking to apply for college and scholarships. Any student accepted to a college within the U.S will be peer up with one of our mentors who will work one on one with them to help them throughout college.

The progress of the program will be measured by student enrollment rate, student attendance and monthly performance projects based on students learning progress. The overall success of the program will be measured based on projected student retention rate for the following year, student’s performance at the summer gala and the number of students we successfully assist with enrolling in college and or obtain funding to attend college.

    Why should you sponsor?

McKay’s Music believes that music education should be used as a primary tool to empower creativity and inspire student learning. In an effort to ensure our students have every advantage necessary to excel as productive members of the community and, perhaps most importantly, society at large, we are reaching out to leaders of our communities in hopes that they will join us in the McKay’s Music Movement.

Microsoft founder, Bill Gates, is quoted as saying:
“If you give people tools, and they use their natural ability and their curiosity, they will develop things in ways that will surprise you very much beyond what you might have expected.”

Unfortunately, in these dire economic times, the ability of music programs such as ours to get the tools necessary to help our students surprise all of us beyond expectations is imperiled. That is why we’re asking for your help! By becoming a sponsor you will help our students have access to simple, yet critical, learning advantages such as the music classes, music workshops, mentors, college and scholarship assistance, as well as the opportunity to gain lifelong skills to express themselves in a positive yet effective manner. Let me thank you in advance for your time and support.

    Charles McKay

Charles Kristafer McKay IV founder of McKay’s Music was born in Montgomery Alabama. At the age of five years old his parents sent him to live with his grandmother, who enrolled him in an early head start school for gifted students. At the age of seven years old he was recruited by a talent agency. He went on appear in movies such as Duece Bigalow 2 and Hoot and doing commercials and photo shoots for companies such as Sprite, Florida Blue Cross and Blue Shield, Florida Prepare College Fund and much more. At the age of ten years old he was introduced to playing the drums during a music class in school. He expressed his interest of music to his grandmother who then enrolled him in private music lessons. Hence, from the age of ten years old he has been studying music. In addition to learning to play the drums, he has since mastered the piano, trumpet, trombone, and tuba. During his senior year of high school Charles was offered a music scholarship to obtain his Bachelors of Music Education from Florida A&M University. There he marched with the marching 100 and became a brother of Kappa Kappa PSI fraternity. He has since had the opportunity to perform on various platforms such as MTV, BET, Hezekiah Walker show, The 700 Club and much more. But Charles states of all the rewards and opportunities his musical background has given him the greatest one is the opportunity to empower the next generation through music. This is a passion so great that it led him to dedicating his to life music education. Being a recipient of quality music education he knows firsthand the opportunities it can provide especially for one who is less fortunate and would not otherwise be given such opportunities.
