In partnership with the Centre for Global Surgery, The Global Surgery Conference brings together professionals and students from different health science backgrounds including medicine, dentistry, nursing, physiotherapy and occupational therapy, across multiple North American universities to stimulate research, discuss high-impact action plans and to promote global surgery.

Ryan HartleyInjury and surgical disease are significant contributors to global morbidity and mortality. Surgically treatable conditions alone account for approximately 30% of the global burden of disease. The medical community is increasingly recognizing access to essential surgical care as a core component of all health systems, as demonstrated by the Lancet Commission on Global Surgery and WHO’s Global Initiative for Emergency and Essential Surgical Care. Despite this boost in international attention and research, basic surgical care remains unavailable to the majority of the world’s population.
The Centre for Global Surgery has recognized the impact of injury and surgical disease and has been committed to addressing this major problem.We believe that the key to do so, is creating local partnerships in resource limited settings to augment local capacity for comprehensive injury and surgical care. We are currently involved in multiple activities and programs in several East African nations and in Haiti.
