The Global Game Jam is the largest game development competition in the world. It is hosted at over 500 virtual locations around the world, in over 100 countries. The University of Baltimore is one of those sites. The event will be hosted by The Simulation and Game Design program, the oldest, and one of the largest, game design programs in Maryland.
The event begins with a keynote speaker, then the secret theme is released to the participants. They form teams and begin creating games within a multi-day time limit. At the end of the period, the games are submitting for judging, and the winning team(s) receive prices.
This year, the event has been extended from 48 hours to a week. At our location, both the opening and closing events will be held in person, with groups working together remotely throughout the course of the week.
The event regularly has over 50 participants that include high schoolers, college students, and industry professionals. At the closing event, this group expands to include family, friends, and other individuals interested in seeing the results of the event.
We will be advertising the GGJ to local colleges and other areas of the public. These materials could include your logo.
The University of Baltimore offers career-focused education for aspiring and current professionals, providing the region with highly educated leaders who make distinctive contributions to the broader community.
Founded in 2003, the Simulation and Game Design program is the oldest and largest game design program in Maryland, with over 120 students spanning two campuses—UBalt and UBalt at the Universities at Shady Grove.
