Gigahacks is a student-led non-profit(501(c)(3)) hackathon hosted by the Inventors’ Club at Foothill High School. The goal of the attendants of Gigahacks is to create functioning software or hardware that solves a problem in society adhering to the decided theme. We host Gigahacks with a new prompt every year in order to ensure that the participants are ready to take on any novel challenge that they encounter. Unlike many other hackathons, Gigahacks focuses its themes on the community and society because we believe that every person should contribute back to society. We aim to promote a deeper interaction with technology that forces our generation to think critically about its use in everyday problems; the future lies in the hands of the students today, and we believe that technology will be at the forefront of making our world a better place.
When you support Gigahacks, you aren’t just supporting us as an organization; you’re supporting the hundreds of students that attend our events. Every penny from your sponsorship will go directly to providing our GigaHackers with the best resources we have to offer. The prospect of having access to great collaboration tools and a space to create and solve problems is a privilege not many of us grew up with. By sponsoring us, you are “investing” in a better future, one where students can come together to reinvent the world through technology. You are exposing our GigaHackers to the software
and hardware solutions that you have to offer. We want to be able to
offer our attendees as many resources as possible in order to spark
innovation and support their ideas. With your sponsorship, we will be able to provide GigaHackers with the best hackathon experience possible. We want to be able to stand out as a hackathon where creativity runs freely and show students the allure of the world of technology.
My name is Karthik Manishankar. I’m a student at Foothill High School, in Pleasanton. Some of my friends and I are organizing a hackathon in the Bay Area to give our fellow students the opportunity to learn to code and tackle modern-day problems through technology. Over the past few years, my friends and I have noted a dwindling interest in the computers that we interact with on the daily. We’ve seen a lot of it just among high schoolers, and we want to hopefully change that by offering a venue where students can explore the different issues they face each day and propose solutions through software. We organized one hackathon already, back in November, and it was a smashing success: around 80 students showed up with ideas on solving problems in the world of education, presenting apps to help procrastinators get organized and websites to train elementary schoolers for their school Spelling Bee. Unfortunately, we can’t do all this alone. In the last hackathon we organized, companies just like yours helped us out by sending mentors and funding various supplies that we needed, and as I said, it was a great success. In order to make this happen again, we’d really appreciate any help you could give us. By helping us, your company would be an emblem of how technology can make a difference in our lives. If you’re interested in helping us, I’d love to talk further. We look forward to hearing from you!
