About the event

Afrikaz Very Own Entertainment plans to host a major party event with the purpose of welcoming first-year students from different universities and colleges around Cape Town. This event will aim to connect students from different racial and cultural backgrounds as Cape Town is often perceived as a polarised city. With all the struggles that the youth faces in South Africa today, student unity is very much in need.

The event is called “Fresher-Than-You” due to the main target market being first-year students, although not exclusively to them. First-year students are usually looked down upon as they are seen as ignorant and gullible but the title of the event inspires them to embrace being new/fresh as opposed to being ashamed of it. The event name also aims to promote pride in being a young, creative and vibrant African person, this will become apparent in our marketing of the event.

Artists from each of the different universities and colleges will be chosen to represent their respective institutions. This will assist us in marketing and attracting different crowds.

This event also serves to further the goal we have of providing Cape Town artists with a platform as they are often neglected compared to their Johannesburg and Durban counterparts.

We plan on making this a traditional monthly event, with varying themes each time

Afrikaz Very Own (A.V.O) is an Entertainment & Marketing company which provides DJ-ing services, provides sound equipment, markets and provides general assistance with the organization of events. These come in various packages depending on the requirements of our clients. Being situated in a multicultural society means that our company always strives to stretch our clients’ reach in terms of attracting interest and also providing inclusive events.

A.V.O came into being February 2016 and is comprised of 5 members all currently studying at The University of Cape Town. The business has grown exponentially due to the experience, contacts and expertise that each member brings to the table. We have hosted and managed 10 major events this year (2016), which have really been successful.

A.V.O aims to become an established Entertainment & Marketing company which specializes in events organization and promotion not only in the Western Cape but through-out the country. We believe in cultural and racial inclusivity through entertainment, with the youth as our target market.
