About the event

Formula SAE is an international automobile competition for undergraduates which is organized by Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE) annually. Formula SEA challenges undergraduates to design, manufacture and race a formula-style race car. Over 400 university teams participate in competitions hosted worldwide. Teams navigate various static and dynamic events to defend their design processes and test their drivers’ abilities. Each team’s race car must excel in multiple events in order to win top honors at the Formula Student Silverstone United Kingdom competition. Competitors are judged not only on their car’s performance on the track, but also in its design, affordability, and marketability.

The team of University of Ruhuna is the second Sri Lankan team to apply for the competition. Therefore in the end of the project a greater visibility is expected to the University of Ruhuna. Also the team Marvel Crew would have more favorable atmosphere as the project has being proved to be feasible.  Group of undergraduates who are dedicated and motivated towards the designing, manufacturing and competing are comprising for this project.

I am J.Hareshankar (Haresh Shankar) the President of Marvel Crew of Faculty of Engineering University of Ruhuna. I am currently undertaking my undergraduate degree as a Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineer at the faculty. My team Marvel Crew has planned to manufacture a formula Car in order to participate in formula student competition in 2018.
