how I wish to raise awareness is through establishing and hosting on a yearly basis is PTSD Community Fun Run/Hill Climb/Tower Climb and Family day in Rosalind Park, where I am hoping to engage 250/300 runners (first event) including emergency service personnel, who will start at or near the rotunda and then zig-zag back and forth across the paths using inclines and declines to create an element of difficulty on their way to the lookout tower, the second last section of the course sees the runners travel on the path beside the cascades (fountain) that leads up to the lookout tower and then upon reaching the lookout tower will then make their way to the top where they will finish, In support of the fun run I intend to also have a supporting Family Fun day and have a number of marquees with gyms, health organisations, sponsors to have information and kids activities and a community BBQ from the local rotary club, as well as local emergency services having vehicles and skills on display also.
I have since been in contact with beyondblue about this event and my intentions and they have now given me authority to fundraise on their behalf and have have endorsed the event name and all proceeds after costs to run the event will be given to beyondblue to put towards their research, education and programs relating to PTSD.
I have also spoken to the Community Events officer at the Council and he is both very interested in the concept and the event actually happening as he believes it is new and exciting and also has never been done before.
therefore sponsoring this event will be a big thing as it is a new concept for a fun run, it involves both community members and Emergency Service Personnel (Professional and Volunteer) and its a way to give thanks to the work that they do and its a chance to make a difference and impact in their lives, by helping to make this event important and possible
Hello My name is Nathan Rogers a local CFA Volunteer Firefighter with the Eaglehawk Fire Brigade for the past 17 years, Recently it was brought to light about the effects of PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder) and the large impact it is having on the lives of Emergency Services Personnel both volunteer and Professional, this disorder is becoming more and more evident in the lives of those effected and their families and also those they work with, because Right now, over 1 million Australian adults have depression and 2 million are experiencing anxiety. On average, 7 people are taking their lives every day in Australia., So what I am trying to do is raise awareness of PTSD and also raise funds to go towards the programs, education and resources for this that beyondblue develop. Also being a local firefighter who is passionate about helping out his colleagues and giving back to his very community that he protects, I believe this cause and purpose is well worth backing and I will also be re-establishing a foundation to support firefighters and this cause in the next few months.
