Movies for Mental Health workshops features interactive discussion among students that first lays the groundwork for a meaningful dialogue, then dives into discussion of films from our media library. We conclude each event with a panel discussion that includes one or two students with lived experience of mental illness as well as local campus and community mental health resources.
A typical agenda for an event includes:
Lunch or dinner (pizza, sandwiches, etc).
Define terms – a guided discussion to open direct dialogue about mental illness, stigma and media’s
role in our perceptions.
Watch and discuss short films – taken from Art
With Impact’s library of films, each short is less than five minutes and deals with a particular aspect of mental health. Students discuss in both small and large groups, exploring emotions and thoughts.
Panel discussion – with resources local to the campus, including a student, counselor, and other community resources, such as county and/or state representatives.
This fall we will be hosting workshops at six colleges throughout California including Santa Monica Community College, CSU San Marcos and Monterey Peninsula College. Sponsoring Movies for Mental Health is a great way to get your company in front of students about to graduate from college, and have them see that you believe in quality of life and mental wellness.
