About the event

Django Girls is a global, non-profit organisation that helps women get involved into technology, teaches them about programming and ultimately aims to improve diversity in the tech world.

We are planning our first event in Edinburgh on 29th November (http://djangogirls.org/edinburgh). We're looking for sponsors who can help us cover the various costs of the workshop. Django Girls workshops are one-day events, plus an installation party the night before, for complete beginners. Over the course of the day, attendees will work in small groups with a coach to build a blog; along the way they will be introduced to programming and web development with python, django, databases HTML, CSS. However, the goal is not to turn people into programmers into one day - we recognise that isn't possible. We want to spark interest, get people excited and show them how fun it is to build something.

The first Django Girls workshop took place at the EuroPython conference in July. I had the opportunity to talk to several participants and was impressed by their enthusiasm and desire to continue pursuing their interests in technology. Each sponsor will help us to bring more attendees to the workshop to learn about programming. Your money will go towards food, drink, resources like books to help them grow and learn and some little things to make their first contact with code a great experience. If possible we would love be able to provide financial aid for travel and accommodation for those from further afield who couldn't afford to come otherwise.
