About the event
The 'Define Beauty' Fashion Show is taking place May 30th at the Miami Teen Expo. Proceeds will benefit CABRE Safe Haven, which provides shelter and psychological services for women & children escaping domestic violence.
Our inspirational fashion show will be one of the event's main highlights and will focus on empowering young girls to be confident and re-define their ideas of beauty. Prior to the show, we will have a theatrical skit with the models and a very powerful poetry reading, showing how true beauty comes from within, as opposed to our traditional media-driven ideas of beauty. The fashion show itself will be complete with a catwalk, high fashion, and fun upbeat music. In Addition to our fabulous show, the Teen Expo event will feature hands-on activities, college prep info, cpr classes, a guest speaker (survivor of domestic abuse), a dance contest, vendors, food, and a teen defense driving registration sponsored by BMW. This will be a wonderful event, for a truly great cause. We decided to theme our show around 'defining beauty' because many of the women and children who become victims of domestic abuse have such low self esteem. Many of these young girls have watched their mothers tolerate the abuse and grow up not knowing their own self-worth, thus repeating the cycle.
This will be the first annual Teen Expo, taking place in the Betty T. Ferguson Recreation Center in Miami Gardens. We have high hopes and will continue to improve upon the event each year!
