Fundraising with a ‘Twist’
6 local business leaders hit the dance floor to support
families fighting cancer in Halton and Peel Regions
June 1, 2015.
Be Brave & Believe, a not-for-profit organization supporting families fighting cancer, is hosting its inaugural gala event ‘Dancing With Our Scars’ on June 12, 2015 at Le Dome Banquet Hall in Oakville, ON. Six local female entrepreneurs and professionals (with questionable dance skills) will ‘Be Brave’ and trade their smartphones for dancing shoes at the organization’s first fundraising gala. Each business leader has been paired with a professional dancer to learn, twist, bend (but hopefully not break) and compete to raise money for accessible support resources and funds to cover non-medical expenses that impact families fighting cancer.
“Fighting cancer takes everything a person and their family, has got.” Christine Glen-Coussée, founder of Be Brave & Believe says. As a two-time cancer survivor, singer, performer, teacher, mother and wife, she understands that fighting cancer requires an army of dedicated family, friends and practitioners.
Non-medical costs of fighting cancer are estimated to reach a staggering average of $48,421.00 per patient. “As I sat for countless hours in the hospital I wondered what people do if they don’t have the amazing support that I have? I had an overwhelming community of support from my friends and family…My mission was clear, I knew I had to pay it forward!”
Be Brave & Believe was founded with the express purpose of covering the unexpected, and often costly, expenses associated with the realities of families fighting cancer. The organization aims to provide resources and programs to alleviate these burdens placed on families. From nutritional home-cooked meals, to hospital parking vouchers, to connecting families with support programs, Be Brave & Believe helps families identify their needs and align them with helpful local resources.
The Dancing With Our Scars gala dinner will feature internationally renowned dancers and choreographers, a live band featuring some of Canada’s hottest and most sought after musicians and the vocal stylings of Christine Glen-Coussée… not to mention a healthy dose of competition. Guests will be treated to a four-course meal, a fantastic show, an evening of dancing and plenty of chances to win generous sponsor prizes.
Proceeds of the event will go directly to supporting programs delivered by Be Brave & Believe to families facing the hard realities associated with cancer in the Peel and Halton regions. Tickets to this unique affair are on sale NOW through the charity’s website.
