About the event

We, the students of Mira Loma, are taking action to raise money for the Oncology Department at the UC Davis Children’s Hospital in Sacramento in honor of a student who lost his fight with cancer. Mira Loma Dance Marathon (MLDM) at Mira Loma High School, Sacramento, California is now in its seventh year and we hope that it can continue to grow! Mira Loma students are organizing this visionary event to raise money to support their local Children’s Miracle Network hospital - UC Davis Children’s Hospital, Sacramento. Dance Marathon is a 6-hour event for high schoolers filled with activities such as dancing, food, bounce houses, music, carnival games.

Children’s Miracle Network, the alliance of premier hospitals for children, is a non-profit organization dedicated to saving and improving the lives of children by raising funds for children’s hospitals across North America. Each year, the 170 Children’s Miracle Network hospitals provide the finest medical care, life-saving research and preventative education to help millions of kids overcome diseases and injuries of every kind. 

UC Davis Children’s Hospital in Sacramento is the pediatric tertiary and quaternary care hospital for children throughout inland Northern California from the San Joaquin Valley north to the Oregon border. The hospital offers children and their families the highest level of care for virtually every pediatric health condition, from autism to urology. UC Davis Children’s Hospital is a 129-bed “hospital within a hospital,” and is part of the UC Davis Medical Center. The Children’s Hospital has more than 120 subspecialists in more than 33 areas of pediatric medicine, including critical care medicine, gastroenterology, hematology/oncology and urology. The hospital’s services include a state-of-the-art 49-bed Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) and a new 24-bed Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU). Additionally, the hospital is the only Level 1 Pediatric Trauma Center in the Central Valley, offering the highest level of care for children suffering traumatic injuries.

This year at MLDM we will be serving the community once again by raising money for one of the most critical parts of the children’s hospital. The UC Davis Comprehensive Cancer Center serves many children with this extremely destructive illness. In 2013, Mira Loma High School lost a student to advanced Leukemia. This year, we will honor him in making the donation to the oncology department in his name. Through this event, we hope that his memory lives on, and that the donation helps other children in his situation to fight the battle against cancer. We hope to raise a substantial amount of money in order to help the children in need.

We, the leaders and chairmen of Dance Marathon, are all ranging from freshman to seniors in high school. As the only high school in California hosting a Dance Marathon, we need as much fundraising, sponsorships, and donations as possible to make this event possible! We are looking out for future generations and we wish nothing for the best for those involved in the Children's Miracle Network.
