Event description:
For children with severe food allergies and other medically necessary dietary restrictions, Halloween can be a dangerous and stressful time. The Teal Pumpkin Project is a nationwide movement that aims to include food allergic children in Halloween festivities by increasing the availability of non-food treats.
Join us on Saturday, October 13, from 4-6 pm to paint and decorate a teal pumpkin and learn how you can help make a safe and exciting Halloween for children who are normally excluded from trick-or-treating festivities. Here are the details:
-You bring your own pumpkin(s), but we'll bring all the paint and decorations! Pumpkins can be big or small, real or faux!
-Learn about the Teal Pumpkin Project and what types of goodies you can hand out on Halloween for children who can't have candy
-At the party, add your address to the Food Allergy Research & Education official Teal Pumpkin Project map so that our children with allergies and restrictions can find nearby houses that are safe for trick-or-treating
-Children will have the chance to win small prizes!
For more information on the Teal Pumpkin Project, please visit FARE's FAQ site at https://www.foodallergy.org/education-awareness/teal-pumpkin-project/faqs. Let's turn Boise teal!!!
The donation request is small but it will make a huge difference to not only the families participating in the event, but for the potential thousands of children in the city who cannot safely trick-or-treat on Halloween without food allergy and anaphylaxis awareness and community participation in the Teal Pumpkin Project.
My name is Hope and I manage the online "Idaho Food Allergy Fighters" community. In Idaho, food allergy awareness is minimal and there are thousands of children, mine included, who are excluded from community events and local holiday festivities due to the dangers posed by food items. I started this community in 2017 and am organizing the Community Teal Pumpkin Painting Party, my second event for the food allergy community; the first was a very successful and rewarding allergy-friendly Easter egg hunt in April 2018.
