About the event

'Children's Day Picnic' is an outdoor event organized annually in June and it has already become a traditional meeting of the whole Polish diaspora in Luxembourg.
Every year the picnic attracts more and more participants of Polish and non-Polish origin. In 2013 the total audience who participated in the different social activities, games and contests was estimated to be close to 900 people.

The celebration of the International Children’s Day slowly becomes a real showcase of Polish presence in the Grand Duchy.

The Picnic is one of the largest free outdoor events open to the general public in the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg. It is also worth mentioning that Children's Day is not a holiday widely known in Luxembourg. Therefore, this initiative of the Polish community is an original way to celebrate Children’s Day by spending quality time outdoors with the family.

Please note that the picnic is a non-commercial event – that is why we are even more pleased with a growing number of people, companies, institutions and volunteers that are involved in this event every year. We are certain that the Children's Day 2014 will receive continuous support from existing partners. However, we are looking forward to receiving grants and funds from new sponsors in order to further expand our offer to children and adult participants of the Children’s Day Picnic.

For this year venue we plan to have the following activities:

Different sports games (football, tennis, bikes, cord jumping, family games)

There will be several bouncing castles, where younger and older children can enjoy jumping.

Teachers from the Polish Saturday School and Kindergarten prepare stands where children can draw, paint, cut, blow giant soap bubbles or track a mysterious person in a paper chase game (with tasks written in different language versions).

Children are invited to listen to the stories read by the teachers as well as to learn the Polish national dances.

For the fourth year in a row we offer a book-crossing stand where children and adults can exchange books at no cost. We also offer the books on sale if people do not have anything to exchange.

We do not forget the parents, who can for example play with Polish spelling in writing exercises prepared by teachers from the Polish Saturday School.

To satisfy the gastronomic needs, we will offer a barbecue and home - made cakes prepared by the volunteers.

The safety of the participants will be insured with the presence of an ambulance (Protection Civile). The members of that team will present elements of the ambulance first aid kit to children and adults, which will be an additional attraction at the Picnic.

Last year thanks to the sponsors, participants of the Picnic’s games and competitions were awarded with more than 100 prizes: books, fruit baskets, tickets to theme parks, indoor playgrounds, cinema tickets and many more.
