Checkmate TV Show is for the uninitiated, it is an introduction to a fascinating world of chess. For the experienced player it is an opportunity to learn more about the game.And for those they do not know how to play chess, it is an oportunity to learn how to play the game of chess.
The format is for a repeatable 6x30 minute programme inspired by the hit BBC TV show “Master Game” from the 1970's & 80’s. Checkmate 1 was filmed in Gozo 2015 which will be televised worldwide this summer and the Checkmate II is going to be filmed in London. The series is built around world class players and their games as they progress through a specially staged tournament competing for the first prize of £20,000 and the Checkmate trophy.
It is a ten player all-play-all tournament; 45 games of chess over 9 days. This means that players can prepare surprises for their opponent in advance, knowing that their opponent is also preparing for them.
UK TV presenter Anna Richardson will be presenting along with chess expert commentator Grandmaster Simon Williams.
Once again leading players from all over the world will be competing. Legendry English Grandmaster Nigel Short, the Russian Grandmaster "chess queen" Alexandra Kosteniuk, celebrity sisters Grandmasters Muzychuk from the Ukraine, Norwegian prodigy Grandmaster Aryan Tari only 16 years old and Grandmasters from Australia, Israel, Sweden, Germany and Hungary.
These are top class players and interesting people in their own right. We will interview them and edit together a potted biography in the player's own words. This gives the player a broader human dimension, and it also gives the viewer an intriguing insight into the sort of person a player is. From his/her personality can a viewer guess the style of chess game he/she plays?
As the players are thinking which options in a move, we can move the pieces around graphically, showing the different possibilities and counter possibilities and its possible consequences.
As players think through their options they may reflect that had they made X move instead of Y they may have been in a better or worse position. Graphically we can go back a move or two and illustrate the different route a game may have taken.
These sessions would take place very shortly after each game, with it still fresh in the player's mind, and just as importantly, the raw tension still palpable. As the tournament progresses and the players are more evenly matched this tension becomes more and more of an undercurrent throughout the shows. We capture not just the player's thoughts, but his/her emotions.

MONIKA GERGELOVA Executive Producer/Producer Monika has been involved in production for a number of years and has helped to create original film and television content of a variety of formats from TV shows, to feature films and sporting events. Her latest achievement is the soon to be released show CHECKMATE, a sports show she conceived based on a brand new international chess tournament that Monika founded featuring Grandmasters from over the world. This show has already been pre-sold in many territories and the second season of CHECKMATE is already in preproduction. Monika is chess player her self and her goal is to bring back chess into television all over the world.
Main Target for the Checkmate II is to raise £40,000 price money. Which will be used for :
