  • About the event

On Saturday, August 20, we will host our annual rowing regatta on Weston Shore as part of the Hamshire, Dorset and Isle of Wight rowing season.  The regatta is well attended by 12 clubs across the association ranging from Poole, Westover & Bournemouth, Ryde, Southsea, Lymington, Chichester Coalporters, Southampton, Christchurch, Newport, Shanklin and Itchen Imperial. The coast assosiation are also joining us this year meaning we will have competitors from as far as shoreham and deal attending. An additional 10 Hampshire and Dorset officials alongside spectators results in around 600 people enjoying the event.

Only with the generosity of our sponsors however, can we ensure an outstanding contest. As a non for profit organization, we  require   financial  support  from  the  surrounding  area  to  present  a successful and enriching event.  The regatta is our main funding stream for the year which goes directly back into buying new equipment to support our growing number of members – particularly increasing due to the Olympic year.

Each event we host has a minimum of 3 boats participating, with some events reaching over 15 boats divided into heats! Entries are usually around 100 crews with  500+ competitors. The regatta provides an opportunity for all members of the visiting rowing clubs to perform and grow in their sporting expertise. Competitors are also able to view the diverse range of talent from other clubs and compete to gain championship points in order to represent Hampshire and Dorset in the South Coast Championships at the end of the year.

    Why should you sponsor?

Coastal rowing remains one of the few truly amateur sports still in operation with no payments or expenses paid to competitors, officials or coaches and no cash prizes awarded. The regatta costs around £4,000 to stage with around £1,200 raised through entry fees and program sales. The remaining balance is then raised through event sponsorship and program advertising - with the Club underwriting any shortfal

Only with the generosity of our sponsors, can we ensure an outstanding contest. As a non for profit organization, we  require   financial  support  from  the  surrounding  area  to  present  a successful and enriching event.  The raffle along with the food and beverage sales are the two main funding stream for the year which go directly back into buying new equipment to support our growing number of members – particularly increasing due to the Olympic year.

At BTC our aim to to "to promote health, fitness and the benefits of team participation through the sport of rowing to people of all ages, experience and ability levels, with an emphasis on youth development". The regatta provides an opportunity for all ages and ability levels to compete in safe, fun competition whilst getting fit, socialising and getting out of the house. It's an opportunity for the community of hampshire, iow and dorset to come together and support their home club. Not only will a sponsor help in continuing to provide this enriching event,  but they also receive a range of publicity to such a wide audience.

BTC Southampton Rowing Club welcomes new members, whether they are new to the sport of rowing; relocating into the area; back from university for the summer; or are coming back into the sport after a longer break.

The club is situated on the River Itchen in Southampton, we also have access to the River Test and Southampton Water. All three of which provide to great river and coastal rowing water all year round.

The origins of the BTC Southampton Rowing Club can be traced back to 1927 and with over 100 members we are one of the largest and most successful clubs in the region. We also compete across the country at regattas, with 3 of ours crews winning divisions in the south coast championships 2015, our veterans recently placing 2nd at Henley and won gold in the World veteran championships in Belgium, 3 alumni members in trials or In the GB rowing squad and one of our youth members holly cook placing 1st in Hampshire for the indoor rowing championships.  We welcome new members of all abilities, minimum age 11. We have an experienced coaching team ready to offer their skills and support to help everyone achieve their rowing or coxing goals.

As a community club we’re always looking for ways to further our ties with our local community.  This can either be through our goal “to promote health, fitness and the benefits of team participation through the sport of rowing to people of all ages, experience and ability levels, with an emphasis on youth development” or getting involved in charity work.  On May 27th BTC rowing club supplied two Concept 2 rowing machines to help a fundraising effort for the new Ronald McDonald House at Southampton General Hospital.
