About the event

Brave New Voices is a youth poetry slam. The sponsorship required is for our South African team this year. Team SA came second last year during the first year of entry. With the rigorous training and support we have received this year, that was not done last year, we are hoping to do just as well if not better.

The team consists of four members, two of which are still in high school. We are strong willed and going for gold. We pride in ourselves in being bold and filterless which is essential in truthfully exposing the issues experienced in our country and society in general.  We want to encourage other young South African poets to come out of their shells and really use poetry as a tool in our communities, many of which are broken. Vocal Revolutionaries is the name of the organization that found this years team. Vocal Revolutionaries  is poetry organization that encourages the leadership and eloquence of the youth especially considering they are the future leaders. The organization ensures that this generation can speak for itself.

It is an arts youth development project which allows room for self-expression in a safe environment. It is an organisation that critically challenges the youth to find their voices in order to take full accountability for their future and their contributions to making South Africa a better place. A literary project that avails itself to mentoring and tutoring the disadvantaged youth as a form of self-growth and liberation. Vocal Revolutionaries use slam poetry, performance poetry and drama as a way that the youth can deal with issues that plague their communities, a form of healing and self-empowerment. It is an organisation that has pledged itself to improving the quality of leadership within the youth spectrum by arming them with tools with which they can change their course of their futures. We believe when the youth take ownership of their voice then they can take ownership over themselves. This is done through free workshops, motivational talks, seasonal slams, national/local performances, mentoring and community service.
