Bowling for the Barn,

Woodland Lanes, Livonia, Michigan, United States Woodland Lanes, Livonia, Michigan, United States

  • About the event

Bowling for the Barn is a fundraiser to raise much needed funds for The Devoted Barn, a 501(c)3 Animal Rescue facility in Newport, Michigan.  The Devoted Barn takes in animals of all kinds from cruelty, neglect, and large scale hoarding cases. They help animals that are unowned and that need urgent medical attention.  They also have a large feral dog program.  These animals come to The Devoted Barn to heal both physically and emotionally.   They learn to trust and love again, or for the first time, with the help of at risk youth and special needs adults who come to work at the barn.  In addition to helping the animals, our mission to teach compassion & empathy to others through working with our animals.

    Why should you sponsor?

The Devoted Barn, a 53-acre non-profit Animal rescue & rehabilitation center in Monroe County, MI is a place of hope, love and strength.  It devotes itself to challenging cases of animal abuse & neglect. They are also one of the few feral dog rehabilitation facilities in the USA.  More than 200 animals have been placed in loving forever homes after being cared for at The Devoted Barn-animals who were stabbed, shot, starved, beaten or confiscated from hoarding situations. Melissa Borden, founder of The Devoted Barn is a woman whose commitment, character, determination and strength are focused on being the change she wants to see in the world.  In addition to rescuing horses, pigs, goats, llamas, cats & dogs, Melissa is a single mother to five amazing kids. They have worked alongside her to make every rescued animal know they are now out of harm’s way. If that is not rare enough, Melissa opens her doors to at-risk youth & individuals with special needs to provide them with the experience of interacting with the animals. The Devoted Barn’s motto is “Teaching Compassion through Positive Action.” Melissa visits schools, often taking special needs animals with her, to teach compassion through stories of resiliency & the challenges these animals have overcome while providing education on how working together can make a difference.  The Devoted Barn relies financially on donations and fundraisers. Melissa is not paid and there are no funds to hire staff (or fix the leaking roof or the pasture fencing) but that does not stop her. The Devoted Barn is run entirely by Melissa and her “Barn Family”.

    Beth Eriksson

My name is Beth Eriksson and I am a volunteer for The Devoted Barn.  I am a huge supporter of Animal Rescue organizations and became aquainted with The Devoted Barn about two years ago.  What an amazing group of volunteers make up the "Barn Family"  They pour their heart and souls into all the work that is done there.  The animals that the barn saves and the horrific situations they come from are what drew me to want to help out in any way that I can for this organization.  I work two jobs so I do not have the opportunity to get to the Barn and do many of the daily volunteer chores so I try to help in other ways like organizing events.  Please help if you can by sponsoring our event.
