About the event
We are interested in the community. Our event is about the social and urban fabric of Lubbock TX. BLNKA vol.2 project alley is a performance on the disactivated in between spaces of downtown Lubbock TX. With the celebration of the talented community artist, musicians and cultural in general in West Texas.
On November of the First Friday BLNKA had their first exhibition event with a list of about 20 artist and 4 music band, with a total of 400 guest. This year we would like to bring more people over to our event.
The organization consist of five architecture students, a community of artist and musicians but mostly Lubbock community. More than doing exhibitions and events, we also have a goal of starting up a magazine and podcast. The podcast would consist of music and speakers that relay with the topics of West Texas community and arts. The magazine articles would mostly be a graphical magazine of topics like how to take care of the environment of West Texas, (ex. what is xeriscape?)
We started our organization by multiple conversations questioning why not start to talk about the situations in the unoccupied spaces in downtown? The importance of the artist and musicians role in the community and culture of West Texas. Starting off small we discuss about making a small event at home, yet the demanding and energy of the artist in Lubbock made us move over to a bigger space.
