BIPOC for a Better Birth (BBB) is a non-profit serving East Central Illinois that addresses the unique needs of Black, Indigenous, People of Color (BIPOC) who face disproportionately poor pregnancy and birth outcomes and lower rates of breastfeeding initiation. We hosting our annual celebration event in recognition of Black Breastfeeding Week from August 25-31.
The main event will be August 26th at Hessel Park from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. All nursing parents and families are invited to gather for light refreshments and an opportunity to meet other breast/chestfeeding families, doulas, and maternal health organizations.
We will have a photographer offering free mini photo sessions for BIPOC pregnant and breastfeeding parents.
We are a small, nonprofit organization in need of support to help grow our annual event. Black women have the lowest rates of breastfeeding initiation yet human milk is critical to health and vitality of Black babies. Our goal is to spread awareness about the benefits of breastfeeeding and normalize lactation in the BIPOC community.
