About the event

A smart city can be defined as a city which is equipped with basic infrastructure needed to provide a decent quality of life. A city made more efficient with the use of artificial intelligence and data analytics. In a smart city, citizens can engage effectively with their local government by way of e-participation.

Learning, adapting, innovating, and responding effectively and promptly to changing circumstances are some of the key points to the development of a smart city.

Smart cities should provide smart infrastructure, smart economy, smart mobility, smart environment, smart people, smart living, and smart governance.

The Government of India launched a Smart Cities project in 2015. It is a US15 Billion Dollar (Rs.98,000 Crore) project that has a mission of urban renewal and retrofitting program to develop 109 cities all over the country, making them citizen-friendly and sustainable.

Chennai is one of the cities that has been selected from the list of 109 smart cities under the Urban Development Ministry’s Smart City Mission.

In association with Founder Institute - Chennai Chapter & MaxBlox Inc., BIL-Chennai is conducting this Smart City Conference that specially focuses on making Chennai one of the top smart cities in the country. Local & international speakers, government officials, & smart city influencers will be presenting and sharing their knowledge and experience regarding various challenges and solutions for the successful development of a smart city.

BIL Conference 

In short, BIL is an open, self-organizing, emergent, arts, science, society and technology unconference inspired by the highly-restrictive TED Conference. In many ways, BIL is the analog to TED. While it started out being held near the famous TED Conference during the trailing weekend, it has grown to a stand alone unconference anywhere self-organizing altruistic change makers consciously come together. The concept of the BIL Conference started in late November 2007, when Cody Marx Bailey proposed the idea.
