About the event
Hello everyone, as you may know my name is Salina Xiong and I am currently a senior at Oshkosh North High School. Because it is my senior year I wanted to do a project that I am passionate about and would help the community. I have decided to do an Independent Study project to promote Asian Pacific American Heritage Month(APAHM).
I chose this because many people know of Asian Americans but very few know why we are here today. Even I, as a first generation Asian American, have very little knowledge of this. By further studying this topic not only will I better understand my roots I will be able to promote cultural diversity which is essential in order to really understand the world and people around us. My ultimate goal for this project is to educate the general public of Oshkosh and the Fox Valley about Asian Americans and their stories in hopes of creating a more harmonious community. This project will end with an event that will bring awareness to Asian American’s and our history. This will be done through art and fashion displays, music and poetry performances, and other entertainment. This event will be held in May in honor of Asian Pacific American Heritage Month(APAHM).
I would like to hold this event at the local amphitheater. I would also like to book different artists, musicians, and designers for the event. Donations will be going towards these things and anything else needed for the event to happen.
