The Yomp (a military term for a long-distance march) is an epic adventure challenge. Teams of 3-6 people take on 54 (gold), 36.5 (silver) or 22 (bronze) miles in 24 hours across the rugged terrain of the Scottish wilderness.
It raises vital funds for ABF The Soldiers’ Charity, which goes towards supporting our soldiers, veterans and their families in times of need; and the Alliance Trust Foundation, which supports local charities in Scotland.
The Yomp brings together military and civilians, elite athletes and first timers, both young and old. One of the highlights for many is the opportunity to fall into step with anyone from a FTSE 100 CEO to a Gulf War Veteran or wounded American Marine. Audience breakdown is as follows:
Each year a number of corporate teams take part, which have included Barclays, BNY Mellon, HSBC, ING Bank, William Grant and Sons and many more.
As well as a large number of active servicemen and women taking part, soldiers from the British Army also volunteer at waterstops and checkpoints that helps to create an atmosphere and connection that is unlikely to be replicated at any other event.
The Alliance Trust Cateran Yomp has firmly established itself as the biggest and most prestigious walking event in Scotland. It has developed a reputation for its first class supporter care and event delivery and become a ‘must do event’ for corporate teams, individuals, veterans and serving soldiers. This is mainly due to the sense of camaraderie, fun and satisfaction achieved by taking on the Yomp.
Since 2010 over 3,300 individuals have taken part in the event and raised over £1.8 million. It has grown from 240 participants in 2011 to 600 participants in 2015. This year is set to be the most successful Yomp yet with over 1000 participants forecast to take part (up by 70% from 2015) and it’s targeted to raise over £500,000.

The Alliance Trust Cateran Yomp is organised by ABF The Soldiers' Charity in partnership with title sponsor Alliance Trust and delivery partner Wildfox Events.
ABF The Soliders' Charity is the British Army's National Charity and supports soliders, veterans and their families in times of need. They have an experienced events team who work on over 20 events and projects each year, which raised over £1.6 million for the Charity in 2015-16.
