Can you imagine getting through school today without access to a computer ? It would be almost be impossible for a student to be able to complete their assignments successfully without one. At a time when awareness of technology and its potential uses in school is growing nationally, the divide between those who have access and those who don't is growing nationally. As a result, students are not building their technology skills, they’re not able to access materials that would help them be successful. Those students who cannot afford a computer of their own often begin to lack in basic skills such as saving work to a flash drive and setting margins in Microsoft Word. To meet this need I, would like to put together a computer building workshop for one graduating 8th grader from each of the Desoto County Middle Schools. These kids have been nominated by each of the schools becasue of their outstanding conduct and they truly show a need for a computer of their own. They would have the opportunity to build a computer from scratch, learn how it works, and take it home with them. I am contacting local county businesses and reaching out to citizens to support these students, so they can have this computer at no charge to them. Let's stand behind OUR students, and give them every opportunity in life to succeed.
