Following a sell-out performance in June this year, Adam Hepkin's The Magic of the Musicals is back at the De La Warr Pavilion, Bexhill-on-Sea with an all new Christmas special starring Aled Jones.
Hailed as "the musical event of the year" The Magic of the Musicals at Christmas is a spectacular concert, featuring your favourite songs from the shows and festive favourites. Expect Lloyd Webber, Sondheim, Gershwin, Rogers and Hammerstein and everything in-between, culminating in our magical White Christmas finale.
Starring one of the most prolific entertainers of the past three decades Aled Jones, West End leading lady and star of Avenue Q, Julie Atherton, Julia Sutton from the West End Productions of Mary Poppins and Sister Act and a host of other incredible West End performers supported by a huge community choir and the stunning Magic of the Musicals dancers and West End Band.
Tickets are almost sold out for this spectacular event, attracting an audience of over 1000 people across various demographics.
This year the professional line-up included West End and Broadway legend, Ruthie Henshall; runner-up of BBC's Any Dream Will Do, Keith Jack; star of Avenue Q, Julie Atherton; West End leading lady, Zoe Doano; Rachael Louise Miller, Jonathan Alden and David Covey from the international tour of Les Miserables; Catherine Millsom from the original West End cast of Kinky Boots; Casualty and West End star, Emily Carey and star of Half a Sixpence and Upstairs Downstairs, Julia Sutton.
The major difference between The Magic of the Musicals and other 'songs from the shows' concerts is the inclusion of a vast community choir, made up of enthusiastic local singers who are taught the material intensively over six weeks. This usually numbers between 80 - 200 people.
The ethos of the show is that the community performers involved are not required to contribute anything financially to be able take part; this includes rehearsal etc, making it truly inclusive. The production is all about providing people with experiences and opportunities that they would not otherwise have access to. This is especially important for raising the aspirations of young performers.
The trailer/VT is still in the editing phase so is currently on a password protected Vimeo site here: https://vimeo.com/131668509
You can view by inputting ‘showtime' as the password. The footage was filmed live at the De La Warr Pavilion on Sunday 14th June 2015 with the embedded quotes taken from various reviews.
