8KM OF SAKE, D.R. CONGO,

Sake, North-Kivu, Congo, The Democratic Republic of the Sake, North-Kivu, Congo, The Democratic Republic of the

  • About the event

The event is about giving an opportunity to youth in the Kirotshe area of the D.R. Congo an opportunity for a better life. The event will be a three part event where first, the local artists/music will perform a concert/show to the public. This is very important because it does uplift the public the especially the youth who have recently went through a traumatic Nyirangongo Volcano eruption in late May 2021. It also gives a chance to the local artist to showcase their talents infront of their community. The second part will be a competition of best ideas/business plan that can be successful currently in the local area. The third will be the 8km race of Kirotshe. One of our main goals is to win the first olympic medal for the D.R. Congo with our talented athletes.

As a native of Kirotshe, D.R. Congo who later became a refugee in Kampala, Uganda and finally arriving in the USA, an opportunity can change a life, a family, a whole village. I am proof of that. And that is what Kirotshe Foundation and this event is all about.

    Why should you sponsor?

Many sponsors sponsor events to try to make a real change in the world. This event is a perfect platform to actually make miracles happen. Can you imagine being a part of making future olympians? Not only future olympians, but future olympians who had nothing in their lives? This is an opportunity to connect your brand with history and truly amazing human stories. Your support to these amazing yet abandoned youth of the Congo, will enable them to bring out their true potential and succeed where it is almost certain that they can not succeed. Join us, support us to make the impossible possible.

    Makorobondo Salukombo

My name is Makorobondo Salukombo. I am was born in Kirotshe, D.R. Congo in 1988 and due to over 20 years of civil conflict that have taken over 6 million lives and many more displced, my family and I became refugees in Uganda for 3 years before arriving in Cleveland, Ohio in 2004 throught the Cleveland Catholic Charities.

In the USA, I was fortunate to be given so many opportunities and a second chance at life that I was successful both academically and athletically. I graduated from Denison University with a bachelors in Chemistry and as a 6 time All-American in Cross-Country and Track and Field.

While in college, I received the Davis Projects for Peace award where I started the first public library in Kirotshe. In addition, I wanted to train for the 2016 Olympics and so started Kirotshe Foundation to support the youth of Kirotshe and its surrounding through education and sports.

In 2016, Beatrice Kamuchanga, a youth from Kirotshe and myself represented the D.R. Congo at the 2016 Rio Olympics. Through Kirotshe Foundation, we have supported the youth of Congo academicaly as over 2000 youth have been helped in one way or another, created many national champions and still working to produce our first olympic medal winner. We have done projects in farming, samll business creation, sewing, vocational training etc to support and improve the lives of the youth and of the people of the D.R. Congo.

We continue to strive to create and provide opportunities that could change the lives of people with no hope in the D.R. Congo.
