The University of Scranton Student Chapter of the American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE) is hosting the 23nd Annual Healthcare Symposium scheduled for 5:00pm on April 5, 2018. Our ACHE Student Chapter is an independent organization serving the graduate students within The University of Scranton Master of Health Administration program. The profits from the event help to send our students to numerous national and international case competitions and local and national conferences, such as the ACHE Congress on Healthcare Leadership. In addition, the annual symposium will educate attendees on the justice, access, and financial implications of population health management and offer 1.5 ACHE Face-to-Face Education Credits. Last year the event had over 180 professional and student attendees representing numerous organizations. In addition to the event, there will also be a basket raffle to raise money for the Leahy Clinic, which is a free health clinic that provides care to the underserved and those who cannot afford care.
As reimbursements shift from volume based to value based, healthcare organizations are becoming more responsible for providing the resources necessary to meet the needs of a given population. It is imperative for healthcare leaders to develop programs that offer underserved communities an opporunity for a healthier tomorrow. With the help of a sponsor, we can aim to educate current and future healthcare leaders on the needs of the underserved community and how to make that shift from treating inidividuals to treating a given population. Our goal this year is to raise $1,000 to donate to the Leahy Clinic so the Clinic can continue to treat the underserved and uninsured in the Scranton area. This will provide them with both food and medical resources for their patients. Our ACHE Student Chapter greatly appreciates any type of donation for this event and thanks you for your support.
Hello, my name is Kendall Whitehead. I am a second year Masters of Healthcare Administration student at the University of Scranton. I am also President of our Student Chapter of the American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE) under the Eastern Pennsylvania Health Executive Network (EPAHEN). Our values include Integrity, Diversity, Life-Long Learning, and Leadership.
Some of our annual events include our Welcome Back Mixer, "How to Survive a Golf Outing", International Dinner, Holiday Party, Bowling Tournament, Networking Mixer, Bake Sale, MHA Alumni Golf Tournament, and our Healthcare Symposium.
We raise all of our money through our Student Chapter with the help of our Executive Board who plan various fundraising and social events. With the money we raise, we are able to send students to Healthcare Conferences, Case Competitions, Reserach Syposiums, and Healthcare Symposiums around the country.
The Scranton ACHE Student Chapter has been nominated by our ACHE Regent, Kevin J. McGovern for the 2017 Higher Education Network Award through the American College of Healthcare Executives.
