SAPAA is an independent, non-profit, non-partisan, non-religious member-driven national organization focused on serving the interests of Sudanese Americans, empowering communities, and developing future leaders.
SAPAA seeks to engage Sudanese Americans and friends in order to build stronger, prosperous communities, and impact public policy on issues of concern to the Sudanese American community in the USA.
In the past 5 years, SAPAA has become a hub for community support and outreach for multiple communities, and has provided a platform for Sudanese Americans to proactively support each other and become an outlet for the youth to reflect and engage in personal and community growth. SAPAA is the support system for a community of first and second generation immigrants who are contributing and adapting to their home away from home. SAPAA strives for the advancement of the Sudanese Community through three pillars, educational support, community awareness and embracing our cultural identity. Each pillar sets the foundation for the advancement of the statewide Sudanese communities.
We are currently in the early stages of planning our annual convention for this year. The convention focuses around empowerment of women, as well as the youth while providing different workshops, talent shows, and culture awareness. The annual convention seeks to bring together the Sudanese communities throughout the United States to participate in educational, personal development, and cultural workshops. Guest speakers present areas in relevance to education, growth, and mentorships while also providing the support and education for college adaptation. For many of our invitees, this convention is a safe zone for them to be able to be around people who are similar to them in culture and experiences. It allows for our younger generation to unite in celebration of their fellow peers successes and provide a helping hand to the community as a whole. The success of our conventions, organization and our outreach is dependent entirely upon the financial and product support of corporate and private sponsors.
Being able to receive sponsor support is consequential to the success of the convention and the organization as all the organizers are volunteers. This is a non-profit organization where all involved participate willingly with their time and own funds. Being able to have the support of the sponsor will allow for the vision of this organization become reality for many members of our community and promote the strength and unity we aim for.
My name is Wafa Saeed, I am one of the new board members to this organization. The main reason I wanted to become part of this organization is its vision for the empowerment of women and youth. I feel that with the hard times many people like me face today, it is really important to know that I have a support system that wants to excel and be empowered. This organization has helped me to make connections with scholars, teachers, and mentors that have helped shape me. Being a recent college graduate with three diplomas, I know I can give back to generations after me that are struggling to fit into America and face all new challenges. I want to be a voice for them, and I want to use the SAPAA platform to do it.
