This event celebrates the important role that Traditional Native American Elders serve. For 27 years, Adopt-A-Native-Elder has facillitated a marketplace for Navajo artisans and weavers over the age of 75. The Elders bring their one-of-a-kind rugs to Park City, Utah, and share their culture, art and lifestyle with the public. The Rug Show is a 4 day event where hundreds of people wind their way through tables of colorful rugs. Patrons visit with weavers and puchase their beautiful rugs, jewelry, and crafts. Over 200 volunteers donate their time and talents to the Rug Show.
With your support, we are able to provide economic assistance to the Elders. They are unable to work outside their home and many do not speak English. This Show gives the Elders a way to keep their dignity and earn an income to sustain themselves. The income earned will help support the Elders for the year to come. The Show is completely supported by volunteers and donations. Any help from sponsorships helps us take care of the Elders and drives marketing to increase attendance to the Show.
The Adopt-A-Native-Elder program exists to create a bridge of hope between Native American culture and American Culture. The program provides humanitarian aid to the elderly popullation on the Navajo Reservation. Twice a year, food runs are conducted bringing over 300,000 pounds of food yearly to the Elders. We developed the Rug Show to help the Elders support themselves through traditional weaving. The Elders live a humble lifestyle and need help to care for themsleves as they age. 100% of the proceeds from our Rug Show sales go directly to the weavers.
