The 2016 CDP Cities Workshop will give city leaders valuable climate measurement and management tools. This is critical for their disclosure to CDP, and will serve city leaders in furthering their climate agendas and ensure they are on track with current and future trends in climate management. The workshop will also provide insights into how to leverage the private sector in mitigation and adaptation efforts and how cities can position themselves for green investment opportunities.
The workshop will be hosted with the City of Las Vegas in collaboration with Green Chips, a Southern Nevada based environmental nonprofit organization. City leaders will have the opportunity to learn from Las Vegas, a city defining their sustainability ambition by planning to be the nation’s first net-zero energy, water, and waste municipality. The city set a goal to be 100% renewable energy powered by January 2017, and is the first city of its size in the United States to set such an aggressive target. The City of Las Vegas is also a leader in climate disclosure – Las Vegas wasone of ten cities, selected from more than one hundred, for the completeness and thoroughness of their CDP response in 2014.

CDP, the only global environmental disclosure system for companies, cities and states and regions, works directly with North American cities in their annual measurement and management of climate and resiliency activities. This year, an incredible 533 cities around the world, representing 621 million citizens reported their climate change data and utilized CDP’s platform to report on their activities for the Compact of Mayors, C40 Cities Climate Leadership Group and City Energy Project. CDP also works with market forces, including 822 institutional investors with assets of US $95 trillion, to motivate companies to disclose their impacts on the environment and natural resources, and take action to reduce them.
