Delta Upsilon Lambda Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. hopes this letter finds you doing well. As a fellow community supporter, we thank you for involvement in Shreveport-Bossier City. Since 1949, DUL continues to provide better opportunities to our fellow neighbors by following our fraternity’s principles: Manly Deeds, Scholarship, and Love for All Mankind.
Annually we award $4500 in scholarships to area students who academically excelled in the classroom. We also provide academic awards at local schools, such as Booker T. Washington, Midway and Oak Park elementary schools. We participate in several community service projects, including local community parades, March of Dimes, Paint Your Heart Out, and Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure. We are leaders with our own service projects: Scholarship programs, Alpha Esquires mentoring program, Voter registration, High school and college preparation courses, and our Christmas showcase. Our upcoming Alpha Leadership Academy is a 3-day event for area students to learn and develop leadership skills, civic engagement, and professional development. Students will have various lessons in seminars and workshops, while interacting with keynote speakers, instructors and mentors.
In order to meet our mission, provide community programs, and scholarship opportunities - we rely on the generosity of our friends and local businesses. With this partnership, we are able to provide better services and opportunities for our community. For us to achieve this, we are asking your organization for support by becoming a sponsor for our 2016 Black and Gold Scholarship Affair on Friday, December 2, 2016 at 7PM hosted at Sam’s Town Casino.
We are asking for your support of the Delta Upsilon Lambda Chapter by making a tax-deductible donation to our Delta Upsilon Lambda Foundation. This generous contribution will be used towards scholarships, mentoring programs, and other service projects. We have enclosed a donor envelope and form for your convenience.
The Delta Upsilon Lambda Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. participates in numerous service projects in Caddo and Bossier parishes, including “Paint Your Heart Out”, Men’s Health Day with LSUHSC, Sickle Cell Can Shake, Hope Connections Homeless Shelter, Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure, and Takin It to the Streets outreach program. Annually, we co-sponsor a regional softball tournament with the local Sickle Cell Disease Association of America.
In 2010, we started a mentoring group, the Alpha Esquires. The Alpha Esquires is our youth group that we provide guidance, support, and life training classes, while they are enrolled in high school. We have 30 students enrolled in our program and each year we are excited with the involvement of these bright, young men.
The Delta Upsilon Lambda Chapter is thankful for your support and contributions to our 2016 Scholarship Ball. We will continue to offer scholarships and deliver service programs benefitting our communities
