About the event
Academy for Learning and Character Development (ALCD) is a non-profit 501(c3) organization located in Huntsville, Alabama that provides free to low cost child care for low-income families. Children of Veterans, homeless children, and those from battered homes attend the Academy free of charge. Under the direction of Dr. Sylvia Collins, ALCD prepares children for educational and social success through an innovative curriculum. ALCD is funded largely in part by donors and sponsors. We are committed to providing quality childcare services to disadvantaged families so that the parents will be able to further their education and obtain meaningful employment. We provide a service that is definitely needed in our communities.
The mission of ALCD is to provide a safe, affordable high quality child care in a developmentally appropriate environment for under- served preschool and school age children. ALCD provides stimulating early care and an educational experience which promotes each child’s individual social/emotional, physical and cognitive development. We believe that every child, no matter the parents income deserves a strong educational foundation. Our goal is to support children’s desire to be life-long learners.
Event History :
We are in need of sponsors for our Annual Spring Bling Pageant on April 2, 2016, which is one of our largest yearly fundraisers for the Academy. Last year we had over 100 guest and this year we are expecting over 150. Participants range in age from crawlers-12. This event is open to everyone in the community and has been a success for the past 18 years.
