Mixedracefaces Exhibition: Chapter 1,

Copeland Gallery, England, United Kingdom Copeland Gallery, England, United Kingdom

  • About the event

Mixedracefaces captures portraits & video clips of mixed-race people telling stories that define them. Not only do we showcase each individual story, but it will also demonstrate how coming from a mixture of backgrounds influences the unique way members of this community navigate their every day lives. Interviews will be subjective, allowing each person to be open, and truthful about their own life experience and opinions. The platform is an educational tool that is connected to people’s wellbeing. Through sharing similar stories we create a safe environment & community for others to also express their identity.

The exhibition itself will showcase the first chapter of the stories & images we have captured. Based on the level of interest received from participants who have already been involved with the project we expect a high turnout. Participants will be using this exhibition to open a conversation with friends & also family which may never have been talked about before. The exhibition will be open to the public and will be a thank you to the community of Peckham for housing such a personal topic. The project promotes diversity which Peckham has in spades. We are providing an education regarding diversity globally. As well as race the platform highlights mental health & sexuality in a safe and welcoming environment.

    Why should you sponsor?

By sponsoring our event you will reach a high number of people through our social media platforms. Our stories are reached globally and this can be seen by the number of likes and comments we receive from people all around the world. We also have an international page on our website which showcases peoples stories from countries which we can't reach ourselves. These participants have engaged with our platform without any promotion by ourselves.

We are fast growing and are currently working with large organisations to promote diversity in the workplace. We have so far collaborated with the Institute of Cancer Research, Oxford Mixed Heritage Society based within Oxford University & will soon be collaborating with the UK Parliament.

The inspiration for mixedracefaces is in honour of Rienkje Zoet, late mother to Tenee Attoh. A dutch woman who married Tenee’s father Fred Attoh, a Ghanaian photographer, in the 1950’s and lived in Ghana for 25 years. A strong woman who broke down barriers to enter a different culture began a legacy in a time when inter-racialism wasn’t widely accepted. We have come along way now, it’s time to celebrate the mixed generations.

We feel that it is really important to embrace our cultural backgrounds and identify with what makes you, YOU. We often talk to people about their lives and find it remarkably interesting. So much so, we wanted to share this experience with the world and document the stories of many through mixedracefaces.

We are a family run business.
