About our event

Challenge America: Makers for Veterans (CAMVETS) signature event is a 3-day intensive makeathon where teams of designers, developers and engineers (Solution Makers) work together to create innovative solutions to the specific challenge of their injured Veteran team member (Challenge Knower). After, we work with strategic partners to develop and scale the solutions, making them accessible to thousands of Veterans and others facing similar challenges. What starts with one Veteran can ultimately impact thousands.

The CAMVETS program creates an ecosystem of community support and innovation built around the unmet needs of our veterans. This model empowers and connects the private sector, public sector, social sector, and military community to develop innovative, affordable solutions to these unmet needs.

While there is an emphasis on innovation and creative design, the primary focus is community and empowerment. Its subject is people, not products. It starts with the unmet needs of individual veterans and engages them in the creation of powerful solutions that can then made available to all veterans and others

facing similar challenges.

Through a formal partnership agreement with the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) we are proud to launch the CAMVETS program in Cleveland this April 25-27, 2019.

Sponsorship Opportunities

Your support for CAMVETS accelerates the pace of innovation for hardware and software solutions that address the unmet needs of injured veterans. Your support makes it possible to create a profound and lasting impact on the lives of these heroes and their families.

If you own or manage a business, this program offers your employees the chance to contribute their unique skills in the service of injured veterans from Northeast Ohio, and in so doing you can also promote employee retention, uncover new opportunities for collaboration with other firms in your region, and scout for new talent among the makers who attend this event.

This international event will also include injured IDF soldiers who will participate as part of our ongoing relationship to our Israeli nonprofit partner, Restart. In addition, this project will be featured at the upcoming AIPAC Policy Conference through a 6-minute video screened from the main stage during one of the general sessions, with all 18,000 attendees in the audience. Challenge America will also share an exhibition space with our Israeli nonprofit partners in The Village.

Challenge America launched in 2009 at a starstudded musical event led by honorary cofounders Amy Grant and Vince Gill. We are a 501(c)(3) nonprofit with a mission to connect service members, Veterans and their families to resources and solutions that build community and give purpose to their lives. We do this by developing innovative, evidence-based programs and initiatives that ensure our valued men and women of the military can live the lives they earned and deserve. These initiatives include Music Therapy Retreats for Veterans who struggle with post-traumatic stress; the Military Sisterhood Initiative forging a national peer support network for women of the military; and Challenge America: Makers for Veterans (CAMVETS) creating life-changing solutions for injured Veterans.
